The Devil's Queen : A Novel of Catherine de Medici by Jeanne Kalogridis
In this book, Catherine de Medici is born into one of the most powerful family of Florence and seems to have everything a young girl could want but soon a violent conflict erupts in the country. She then find herself in the hands of her enemies only to end up in prison. Later Catherine is forced to marry the handsome Prince Henry of France but is soon overshadowed by his mistress the much older and conniving Diana de Poitier. Having a hard time conceiving children Catherine decided to turn to the dark arts of sorcery, when she teams up with astrologer Cosimo Ruggieri. She then must deal with the consequences of her actions by paying the price of what she had done. With Catherine's blood-soaked visions for the future, Kalogridis reveals great love and desire Catherine bore for her husband Henry and the shear determination to keep her sons on the throne of France.
I found this book a joy to read. Going a long for the ride as the author Jeanne Kalogridis brings Catherine de Medici a live through the pages of history again. It shows the hardships Catherine had to go through as a young girl growing up into adulthood. I loved driving into the French court and knowing the ins and outs of what Catherine had to do to achieve to become one of the most famous monarchs in France. I feel that the author did a fabulous job creating these characters, and the quality of each person who lived during those times. She developed the story line as it made you feel like you were stepping back in time and immersing yourself into the French country side. I think the last chapter could of been a little longer but the author has a section at the end to wrap up Catherine de Medici's time line until her death. If you want a glimpse into French history in the 16th century and love a good historical novel this book might be for you.
I gave this historical fiction ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5 stars. Loved it.
